# Bicycle parking rules and impound options in Utrecht
## We love cycling in Utrecht, but city space is limited. Following the bicycle parking rules set by the City of Utrecht keeps the streets organized and prevents the municipality from impounding your bike.
### **How to park your Swapfiets correctly in Utrecht**
- **Use designated parking:** Always place your bike in a marked bicycle zone or rack. Take extra care near train stations and nightlife areas like 'De Neude'.
- **Double-lock your bike:** Secure your bike using both the frame lock and the chain lock every time you park. This protects against theft and prevents a surcharge for using only one lock.
### **What happens if the city impounds your Swapfiets**
If you park outside designated areas, the Utrecht municipality may remove your bike and take it to the municipal bicycle depot (*Fietsdepot*). When this happens, we will email you to let you know your bike is at the depot.
### **How to retrieve your Swapfiets from the bicycle depot**
When your bike is impounded, you have two choices to get back on the road:
- **Pick it up yourself:** Visit the [Utrecht bicycle depot](https://www.utrecht.nl/wonen-en-leven/verkeer/fiets/fiets-stallen)during their operating hours to collect your original bike.
- **Swap at our store:** Visit the nearest Swapfiets store and we will collect your impounded bike for you while providing you with a replacement.
### **Pickup options and costs**
- Pick up your Swapfiets yourself at the bicycle depot: €25,00
- Pick up from the Swapfiets store: €60,00
