When will you be charged a surcharge as part of your Swapfiets subscription?
While repairs and replacement for your Swapfiets are free, occasionally you’ll be asked to pay a surcharge for other things. We know sometimes this can come at a bad time, so you can always contact us to arrange a payment plan that fits with your situation.
To make sure a surcharge isn’t a surprise, if you do have to pay it, you’ll find details of the most common surcharges below. There are even less commonly occurring surcharges too. You can find these in your Terms and Conditions. A link to our Terms and Conditions can be found at the end of this article.
Replacement key
If you’ve lost or damaged your key, you can request a replacement key. Find out more about getting a replacement key here.

Lost or missing bike
If your Swapfiets bike is lost or missing, you can get a replacement but there will be a surcharge. The exact amount depends on the kind of bike or e-bike you have and how it went missing. Please see the table below for the surcharges.

Lost or damaged battery
If you have a Swapfiets e-bike and the battery is lost or damaged, then you can get a replacement, however, there will be a surcharge. Please see the table below for the surcharges.
Excessive damage
Your membership already pays for most wear, tear and damage that will happen in the course of using a Swapfiets bike, so usually you won’t have to pay anything for replacement parts. However, if damage is deemed to be excessive, then you will be asked to pay a surcharge.
Excessive damage is damage that has come from misusing your Swapfiets bike. In the tabel below you will be able to see an overview of the maximum charge for damages to your bike.
